Testimonials
"The challenge of facing recovery from anorexia using a traditional FBT approach with parents taking control was put succinctly in a moment of distress by our daughter “I just can’t eat unless you tell me to eat, but as soon as you tell me to eat my brain shouts at me and then I just can’t eat”. Having parented this child for 15 years this statement resonated with everything I knew about how demands and expectations impacted her ability to comply.
James has been a remarkable source of support for our daughter, helping her understand and accept her neurodiversity and PDA, truly understanding her perspective and showing a route through the tenuous and obstacle filled path of recovery from anorexia when living with autism and PDA, and acting as a translator for her to be able to communicate with myself and her dad as we learn her language and how we can support her. We approached James knowing what we were being guided to do as a treatment plan wouldn’t work for our daughter, but also feeling like by not following this treatment plan we were taking huge risks with her physical and mental health. James gave us the reassurance with his calm confidence to listen to what we knew as parents and knew of our daughter, he has provided sound advice from a wide base of knowledge and experience.
James’ professionalism and expertise has shaped how the team at CAMHS are now communicating with us and our daughter, we have a long road ahead at a pace that is comfortable and supportive for our daughter, but I feel certain it is a path to stronger relationships, strong recovery and self discovery for not just our daughter but us, as her parents, too. The best decision of my life was to hit send on the email sent to to James in a dark moment."
Parents of a young person
"We have been incredibly fortunate to work with James at Orange Tree School, whose expertise in Autism has brought significant value to our SEMH school community. His deep knowledge of Autism, combined with genuine warmth and compassion, made an immediate impact—not just on our staff, but most importantly, on our students.
What stood out the most was how naturally James connected with our young people and understood how to communicate with them instantly. He created a safe and trusting space where students felt seen, heard, and understood and learned more about understanding and accepting themselves. Through thoughtful conversations and creative approaches, James helped our pupils begin to make sense of their own personal journey with Autism in a way that felt empowering, not overwhelming. Many of our students have told us how, for the first time, they feel proud of who they are.
James is also supporting our team with his insight and practical guidance, helping us to better understand how to meet the needs of our Autistic learners in a way that’s respectful, nurturing, and genuinely inclusive. We have some amazing staff training planned out for the next 12 months which I am very much looking forward to."
